Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 24:1  Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them. 2  For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.

Proverbs 24:8  He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.

Can you imagine a person so intent on wickedness that they study different ways to destroy and talk about their plans and conspire with others?

King David knew well how the mischievous person marked his steps planning to destroy him.

Psalm 56:1 …Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me. 2  Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High. 3  What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. 4  In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me. 5  Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil. 6  They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul. 7  Shall they escape by iniquity? in thine anger cast down the people, O God.

Much of the planning and stalking of those who would do the believer harm or bring persecution come from wresting or twisting words and watching or marking the steps of the righteous. (Read the book “Foxes Book or Martyrs.)

If you are a Christian, you should never be identified as one of these people.

Proverbs 24:1  Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them. 2  For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.

Proverbs 24:8  He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.

We see a different type of person in the born again believer.

Philippians 4:5  Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 6  Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 8  Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Philippians 2:5  Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:

Today, endeavour to be that person who thinks and does right in the eyes of the Lord. Instead of crafting mischief and planning destruction, seek the Lord in His word and in prayer.

Psalm 31:3  For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me.

Micah 6:8  He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
