Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 24:17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: 18 Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
No one should rejoice over the misfortunes of another even if they are enemies. Every man is against the Lord until that man is born again.
Psalm 14:2 The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. 3 They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one. 4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the LORD. 5 There were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous.
Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. 13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: 14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: 15 Their feet are swift to shed blood: 16 Destruction and misery are in their ways: 17 And the way of peace have they not known:
But by the grace of God we, the born again believer, has experienced salvation and have gone from unrighteousness to righteousness. If we got what we deserved we would all be destroyed and in hell.
Therefore, we should never rejoice over the misfortunes of others in this life or the next. It should burden our souls.
We must also understand that God who watches from the heavenly places, sees and observes. Those who rejoice and delight in others who fall, and stumble bring displeasure to God and God reacts.
Our response as believers should be totally opposite, we seek not to rejoice in our enemies falling and stumbling, rather we pray for them and love them as Christ loved and gave His life that He might redeem them from hell.
Matthew 5:43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
We see the greatest example of that when Jesus prayed for those who slew Him on Calvary’s cross. Luke 23:34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.
By the way, that prayer, on the cross, was not for you, it was for those who crucified Him. Jesus prayed for you in John chapter 17:20-21.
Proverbs 24:17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: 18 Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
Never rejoice in the falling of others and never delight when they stumble. Rather, pray for them.
Do you walk around in bitterness and anger and hatred hoping your enemy will fall and stumble? Do you rejoice when he does? Remember, the Lord is watching.
(As a side note: Warning someone of the consequences of their actions and choices is not rejoicing. Some people think if you rebuke them you are intolerant and hateful. That is not the case, in fact warning others in the very expression of love; for Jesus warned and rebuked His enemies and still prayed they would repent.)
The choice is still yours,
