Morning Devotion: Read Luke - Jesus before the council
Luke 22:63 And the men that held Jesus mocked him, and smote him. 64 And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee? 65 And many other things blasphemously spake they against him.
Have you ever been mocked? Mocking never comes from the mouth of humility it always comes from the mouth of pride. It never comes from the mouth of contrition rather it comes from arrogance and narcissism.
Do you mock the good and the godly, maybe not in their face, but to their back or to others. Jesus was mocked by those who were of that type. They were the religious crowd who thought they knew but were ignorant of who Jesus really was. He was their messiah, their God and they did not know it. They refused to see for their eyes were blind, yet, they were full of pride.
In the morning, after the prideful had a good sleep, and after Jesus was up all night, the priest, elders and scribes came together to question Him.
This is a tactic widely used by interrogators, keep them up so they are tired then question them. In their fog of tiredness, they will say something to implicate and incriminate themselves.
Luke 22:66 And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying, 67 Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe: 68 And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go. 69 Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God. 70 Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am. 71 And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.
The religious council asked two questions; “Art thou the Christ?” and “Art thou the Son of God?”
Jesus answered the first with: “Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.”
To sit at the right hand of authority means you are the authority. A right hand man has all the authority of the one in charge. Jesus is at the right hand of God the Father.
After His resurrection Jesus said: “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.” (Matthew 28:18)
He answered the second with: “Ye say that I am.”
At these responses, they thought they had Jesus right where they wanted Him.
Luke 22:71 And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth.
My friend, Jesus still at the right hand of God the Father. Jesus will operate in that capacity until all of this earth is subdued to the will of God. The way it looks now, with all that is happening in the middle east and with Israel, I believe we will see His power and great glory very soon.
1Corinthians 15:28 And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.
Are you ready or are you still questioning, maybe even mocking the things of God?
The choice is still yours,
