Morning Devotion: Read Luke - Jesus Before Pilate

Luke 23:1  And the whole multitude of them arose, and led him unto Pilate. 2  And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King. 3  And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it. 4  Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man. 5  And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place.

Lost people will always act like lost people, 100 percent of the time. There is no deviation from that fact. While there are many who claim to be good, they are still lost.

In our text we find the very religious people acting as previously stated. They are accusing Jesus falsely; they playing pit, trying to pit one against another through false accusations.

If we look back, we will find that Jesus did not forbid to give tribute. We will also find that the people themselves accepted Him as Christ/Messiah.

Luke 20:22  Is it lawful for us to give tribute unto Caesar, or no? 23  But he perceived their craftiness, and said unto them, Why tempt ye me? 24  Shew me a penny. Whose image and superscription hath it? They answered and said, Caesar’s. 25  And he said unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which be Caesar's, and unto God the things which be God’s. 26  And they could not take hold of his words before the people: and they marvelled at his answer, and held their peace.

The angels called Him Christ.  Luke 2:11  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

The devils knew Him as Christ. Luke 4:41  And devils also came out of many, crying out, and saying, Thou art Christ the Son of God. And he rebuking them suffered them not to speak: for they knew that he was Christ.

Jesus acknowledged the fact that He was the Christ. John 4:25  The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. 26  Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

Mark 14:61  But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? 62  And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

However, the religious people do not acknowledge Him as Christ.

Luke 22:66  And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people and the chief priests and the scribes came together, and led him into their council, saying, 67  Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said unto them, If I tell you, ye will not believe: 68  And if I also ask you, ye will not answer me, nor let me go. 69  Hereafter shall the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God. 70  Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am.

My friend, the angels, the devils, the disciples, the people and God Himself all acknowledge Jesus as the Christ the Son of God. The religious crowd does not.

Would you acknowledge Jesus as the Christ, your personal Lord and Saviour, or will you deny Him?

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
