Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 24:28  Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips. 29  Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.

Being a witness without a cause is nothing more than one exercising revenge or manipulating things for self purpose.

Being a witness in deception and revenge is no cause at all except the gain for ones own self whether its to make oneself look good or destroy another for gain and personal pride.

Proverbs 24:29  Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.

For the Christian to seek revenge goes against the righteousness and holiness of which they were bought and of which their Lord embodies.

Remember, Jesus sought no revenge while hanging on Calvary’s cross; Jesus sought the salvation of those who put Him there.

Luke 23:34  Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

To demand your pound of flesh is wrong. That quote comes from the work of Shakespeare in the Merchant of Venice when a jewish man was outcast from Venice. Christians often become outcast for doing what is right with God.

What should you do when others bring false witness against you?

Romans 12:19  Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

Our recourse is to give such vengeance to God for He says; “Vengeance is mine I will repay.”

Psalm 94:1  O LORD God, to whom vengeance belongeth; O God, to whom vengeance belongeth, shew thyself. 2  Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth: render a reward to the proud. 3  LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked triumph? 4  How long shall they utter and speak hard things? and all the workers of iniquity boast themselves? 5  They break in pieces thy people, O LORD, and afflict thine heritage. 6  They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless. 7  Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it. 8  Understand, ye brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise? 9  He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see? 10  He that chastiseth the heathen, shall not he correct? he that teacheth man knowledge, shall not he know? 11  The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.

When God repays, He does so in perfect righteousness and holiness. His judgment is perfect and pure. Let Him make the call.

There is a great victory to be gained for the believer who learns to give such things to the Lord. The bitterness is gone, hatred is gone, vengeance no longer becomes a concern and fretting which brings stress is relived.

Give it to the Lord and move on. 1Peter 5:7  Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Proverbs 24:28  Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips. 29  Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.

It all begins with salvation. Acts 16:31  And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
