Morning Devotion: Read Luke - The Cross
Luke 23:24 And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required. 25 And he released unto them him that for sedition and murder was cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will. 26 And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.
Pilot, willing to please the crowd did as they required. He delivered Jesus to their will.
That poses a great question this morning; Is Jesus delivered to your will or are you delivered to the will of Jesus?
It is the will of God and the Lord Jesus Christ that all men everywhere might be saved. It is the will of God that you have a wonderful relationship with HIm.
Only those who have Jesus delivered to their will, reject Him.
Those who are delivered to the will of Jesus, receive Him and are gloriously born again.
Luke 23:27 And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him. 28 But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children. 29 For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck. 30 Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us. 31 For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?
There were people following and lamenting and bewailing the Lord as He made His way to the cross. At one point He stops and gives a prophecy to those who are there.
In verses 28-31, He is speaking about the tribulation period, when men and women will flee for their lives for they will accept the antichrist and the beast. Upon the abomination of desolation spoken by Daniel, he will unleash a great fury and hatred upon Israel and two thirds of the nation will be destroyed.
Luke 21:23 But woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck, in those days! for there shall be great distress in the land, and wrath upon this people. 24 And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.
Revelation 6:15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; 16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
During the tribulation period God’s wrath will cover the earth to make an end of sin and bring reconciliation and everlasting righteousness.
Daniel 9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
Those people who refused Jesus chose their own demise.
In Verse 31, Jesus makes a very important point, He says if they weep now when things are going well (the green tree), what will they do when things are worse (the dry).
Is Jesus delivered to your will or are you delivered to the will of Jesus? Eventually every knee will bow to Jesus.
Philippians 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
I chose Jesus years ago, bowed the knee years ago; I am looking skyward for my blessed redeemer. For now, I am enjoying my relationship with Jesus.
The choice is still yours,
