Morning Devotion: Read Luke

Luke 21:8  And he said, Take heed that ye be not deceived: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and the time draweth near: go ye not therefore after them. 9  But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by. 10  Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: 11  And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven. 12  But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake. 13  And it shall turn to you for a testimony. 14  Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer: 15  For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

The Lord warns of great deception as this world moves forward to the tribulation period. Many will call themselves the Christ proclaiming themselves as saviour.

There will be wars and rumours of was of which are well aware of at this present time.

There will be famines whether man made or natural. We are experiencing that as well. Birds are being destroyed, animals are being eradicated all in the name of protection from disease. These types of things create shortages. There are famines in the dryer climates of the world creating problems as people struggle to exist.

Earthquakes abound all over the world. North America does not experience very many earthquakes which may cause one to not be so concerned about what is really happening worldwide.

Luke 21:11  And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

Along with famines, there will be pestilences. Pestilences can be anything from bugs and their bites and devouring of vegetation to disappearing bees and their lack pollination. Pestilences can be disease and sickness whether man made or natural. Here in Canada, if the winter is mild there can be an upsurge in bug activity in the spring and summer because the winter cold did not eliminate them. If the weather changes, whether man made or not, there can be pestilences.

There will be signs in the heavens, of which we are seeing as well. These can be man made and natural. Weather patterns are shifting and temperatures are fluctuating with greater frequency.

Luke 21:12  But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for my name's sake. 13  And it shall turn to you for a testimony. 14  Settle it therefore in your hearts, not to meditate before what ye shall answer: 15  For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist.

In our society today, we are seeing an uptick in rebellion against God and those who represent the Lord Jesus and all that the word of God declares. To speak of these things will often get one in trouble. Just as Peter and the disciples were brought before the magistrates in the book of acts, so today people who love the Lord and voice such are often dealt with in the same way.

As we approach the rapture of the believers, the true church, there will be what we call “birth pangs” leading up to the delivery of the baby called the tribulation period.

Once the rapture happens, and it will happen soon, there will be great trouble here on earth. Up until then the above mentioned issues will become greater and more troublesome, especially for believers.

However, the reality having a relationship with God through our Lord Jesus Christ and the eternal peace and glory with our Lord is the stabilizing factor in all this.

Do you know the Lord Jesus Christ? Are you born-again?

The choice is still yours,

Pastor cook
