Morning Devotion: Read Luke
Luke 24:9 And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest. 10 It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles. 11 And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not. 12 Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.
Sometimes, maybe more often than not, we have a tendency to dismiss God’s word because the truth might seem unbelievable, maybe like an idle tale.
In Genesis 19, when God was going to destroy Sodom, Lot went and spoke to his sons-in-laws about God’s plan. They laughed at him in unbelief. Genesis 19:14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the LORD will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.
Their unbelief cost them their lives.
In 2 Kings chapter 7, Elisha prophesied God’s goodness in bringing food to the Israelites. The Kings right hand man did not believe it would happen.
2 Kings 7:2 Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God, and said, Behold, if the LORD would make windows in heaven, might this thing be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes, but shalt not eat thereof.
The man did see the blessings of the Lord. However, he lost his life and never tasted the food. He was trampled by those who ran to get the free food.
In Acts 12, Peter was released from prison by an angel. He immediately went to Mary’s house and began to knock on the door. When the maid saw him she told the others that Peter was at the door. They thought she was crazy.
Acts 12:12 And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying. 13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda. 14 And when she knew Peter's voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate. 15 And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel. 16 But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.
Jesus told His disciples He would rise from the dead after three days. Yet, they struggled with the reality of the truth. Jesus had risen. Peter ran to the sepulchre and saw for himself.
Later, when our risen Lord Jesus met with them, He told them they were wrong for not believing Him.
Mark 16:14 Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.
Christian, do you struggle with believing God and His promises? You believed Him to save your soul, do you believe Him to take care of your daily life as well?
My unsaved friend, would you believe that Jesus can save your soul or does salvation seem like an idle tale to you?
Acts 28:24 And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.
The choice is still yours,
