Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 18:2  A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

Proverbs 28:26  He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

Psalm 10:3  For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth.

The word of God has much to say about the heart. There are 895 verses dedicated to speaking about the heart.

In our text we find the heart is not to be trusted. When we speak of this type of heart we are talking about the heart that follows its own desires and lusts.

People are often encouraged to follow their heart and trust the heart. Trusting the heart is dangerous because the heart especially the lost heart can lead one to do terrible things.

There are two types of hearts in this world, the born-again heart and the lost unsaved heart.

The lost unsaved heart will always follow itself. It will always follow that which pleases itself. It will want to discover itself and trust itself. In doing so the lost heart will endeavour to pursue things of every facet. The trail of that heart ultimately leads to sin and death. James 1:15b and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

Just before the great flood God spoke of the heart. Genesis 6:5  And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Remember, the fool hath said in his heart “no God.”

Psalm 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

Psalm 53:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.

Psalm 58:2  Yea, in heart ye work wickedness; ye weigh the violence of your hands in the earth.

Jeremiah 17:9  The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

More often than not we trust the intuition and emotions and that which pleases the heart which may not be good.

What should the born-again bible believing Christian’s heart follow?

Proverbs 3:5  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7  Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. 8  It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

The heart can be changed into something good.

Romans 10:9  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

2Corinthians 5:17  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

The choice is still yours,
