Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 19:1 Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool. 2 Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth. 3 The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the LORD.
Integrity is being stedfast or unimpaired in moral code. I means to be sound to be while or undecided and complete. Of course, the only moral code of any value and is the grandest and purest code, comes from our creator. He has given us His moral code and law, it is called the Word of God.
A poor person who walks in the integrity of God’s law is certainly better than a reverse fool.
Psalm 14:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
The person without this type of knowledge is not good. Everything he does is governed, by his own intrinsic desires and lusts being driven by the one who is totally without moral value.
Ephesians 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
Because of his foolishness his biblical and godly knowledge is perverted and his way (manner of living) follows suite.
A poor person who walks in integrity is honoured more than he who is without such integrity and knowledge.
The result is fretting against the Lord. The word fret or fretteth is the word which means to boil up, that is to be peevish or angry: - fret, sad, worse liking, be wroth. Have you ever been angry with God?
Let’s put this in perspective. A person who does not know the Lord or is lacking knowledge of the Lord and His word will naturally make foolish decisions perverting his manner of living which will ultimately cause him to fret, argue be upset and peevish blaming God for things in his or her life. Maybe even causing them to ask “Why is God doing this to me” or “ I thought God loved me” when in fact they themselves made their own decision to be foolish. You can’t blame God for your own decisions.
Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
The greatest choice you can ever make is Jesus. Trusting Jesus beings an entirely different perspective to life. He saves us and guides us with His word. His word is knowledge.
2Peter 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
The choice is still yours,
