Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 19:5 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.
Proverbs 19:9 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.
What is a false witness? Who are false witnesses? Are you a false witness? How do we know what is true and what is false?
The word false simply means untrue. We see untruth all around us as we deal with society. There is untruth in mechanics, medicine, merchants, labourers who steal their bosses time. There are untruths in politics, and yes, even in ministry. The realm of false witness is everywhere when you deal with people especially of those who are not born again.
To be a false witness is to speak untruth, it means to lie.
We find examples throughout the scriptures as men and women give false witness about this or that.
The devil gave false truth to Eve in the garden of Eden. She was deceived as she was tempted to become a god.
Genesis 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
God gave a commandment to never bear false witness.
Exodus 20:16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
From the Old Testament through the New Testament there were and are false witnesses in ministry as well.
Jeremiah 14:14 Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.
A sign of end time prophecy is that there will be false preachers and even false Christs. The pope claims to be the vicar on earth, meaning in the place of Christ. That is false. Jesus said it would happen.
Matthew 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? 4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
There were false witnesses against our Lord Jesus Christ.
Matthew 26:59 Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;
How do we know what is false and what is true?
Truth always comes from God, lies come from the devil and his own. Jesus said as much to the false teachers of His time.
John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
Mark 13:22 For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
So, how do we know what is false and what is true being of the elect or born again believers?
It comes down to one thing; keep your eyes upon Jesus through His wonderful word.
Psalm 119:104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.
Psalm 119:128 Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way.
If you are not reading the Word of God, you will be unable to tell what is false and what is true especially when it comes to salvation and eternity.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
The choice is still yours,
