Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 17:9 He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.
Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.
When does love cover a transgression? Does God cover all transgressions and sins and iniquity just because He loves you? The answer is NO!
God’s love covers sin when sin is forgiven. When a person sins, true love exposes sin so that the beloved sinner can be repent and receive forgiveness. Upon forgiveness love covers their sin.
Psalm 32:1 Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
Romans 4:7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
We know that God, in love, shed His blood on Calvary’s cross that sin can be paid for and covered. When a person turns from sin and seeks forgiveness trusting in the shed blood of Christ, he or she receives forgiveness.
When God forgives the sin of the repentant sinner, His love covers all their sin. God chooses never to remember, He chooses to cover the sins of the saved.
Isaiah 43:25 I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins.
Hebrews 8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
Hebrews 10:17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
God can never forget your sins. He is God; God knows everything and forgets nothing. When the bible says God will not remember your sins, it means God chooses not to bring it up again.
With that in mind, let’s look at our text: Proverbs 17:9 He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.
When God forgives He chooses never to bring up your sins again, the devil will, God will not. The devil is the accuser of the brethren. Revelation 12:10
When we apply that truth to ourselves, we find that men and women often fail to forgive and choose to gossip with others over someone else’s sin.
If someone has sinned against you and they come to you seeking forgiveness, you must forgive. If you fail to forgive their sin you may not be forgiven yourself.
Matthew 6:14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
Once sin is forgiven, you are under the obligation of love to cover that sin and not gossip, never repeat it. When you gossip you separate friends. When you cover someones forgiven sin, you are seeking to love that person.
Proverbs 17:9 He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.
1Peter 4:8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.
When someone comes to you seeking your forgiveness, give it. When you forgive, hide their sins so they can be free. Remember, you are just as bad as they are.
Psalm 130:3 If thou, LORD, shouldest mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand? 4 But there is forgiveness with thee, that thou mayest be feared.
Sinner would you repent and trust in Jesus to save your soul and forgive your sin?
Christian, when someone comes to you seeking forgiveness, would you forgive and choose not to bring it up to others?
Proverbs 17:9 He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.
The choice is still yours,
