Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 22:17  Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge. 18  For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips. 19  That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee. 20  Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge, 21  That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?

Over and over again, God gives us opportunity, a reminder in God’s word, to the wise. We find Paul the Apostle using this passage in Romans 12, and Hebrews 12. We find Peter quoting this in I Peter 4; we find James doing the same thing in James chapter 4. Jesus in Luke chapter 14 uses this text as well. It must be important!

If it is so important to have been repeated, the question must be asked, would you bow your ear and hear the words of wisdom? Would you allow the word of God to be applied to your heart? Is God’s wisdom pleasant enough to keep them within and fitted to your lips? In other words; are God’s words pleasant enough to speak about them openly.

Does the word of God, the words of wisdom, cause you to trust in the LORD?

God’s word, the words of wisdom, are inseparable to the whole of scriptures. The entire bible is filled with counsel and knowledge that you may know with certainty the words of truth.

As we muse over this passage we find that the knowledge of Jesus and HIs salvation is paramount in the bible.

Ephesians 1:17  That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

Phillippians 3:8  Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

2Peter 1:2  Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

2Peter 3:18  But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Knowing Jesus is the most important thing anyone can have.

Paul said: Philippians 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

Have you bowed your ear to hear? Is God’s word pleasant and easily spoken of for you? Does it cause you to trust in the LORD?

Proverbs 22:17  Bow down thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thine heart unto my knowledge. 18  For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips. 19  That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee. 20  Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge, 21  That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?

Verse 21 reminds us that God wants you to know the certainty of His word and share it with others.

Believer, can you answer with the words of truth to them to whom God has sent you?

1Peter 3:15  But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

The choice is still yours,
