Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 22:22 Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate: 23 For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.
The word “gate” is the word that indicates the place where people come and go through to conduct business. It was the place of concourse.
The gate is also the place where judgment is made. In the Old Testament economy the gate was the place were judgment or court proceedings were conducted.
The gate was the place where Lot sat as a judge in Sodom, (Genesis nineteen).
The gate was the place where Boaz settled the case of redemption for Ruth and her possessions, (Ruth chapter four).
The gate was the place where Absalom tried to steal the kingdom from King David by perverting judgment with the people.
2Samuel 15:2 And Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate: and it was so, that when any man that had a controversy came to the king for judgment, then Absalom called unto him, and said, Of what city art thou? And he said, Thy servant is of one of the tribes of Israel.
Proverbs 22:22 Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate: 23 For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.
In our modern world today, as I the days of the Kings, the laws were changed by the rich to control the poor. The poor were afflicted in the gates or in the courts of law.
In this world of changing times and fulfilment of prophecy, the laws and times will continue to change bringing in the tribulation period and control of the antichrist and eventually the devil.
Daniel 7:25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.
Proverbs 22:22 Rob not the poor, because he is poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate: 23 For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.
Notice, God tells us that eventually, He will plead the cause of those who conduct themselves in such a way as to harm the poor and spoil them.
You can read how the LORD does that in Revelation chapters 17 and 18 when the economic, commercial and religious Babylon fall by the hand of God and the souls of those who spoiled others answer to God.
As we see these things happening, keep your eyes toward heaven.
Luke 21:28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
As a believer, do that which is right with others. Don’t be an oppressor, be an encouragement and a helper of those who need it. Do so because our heavenly Father is watching and cares for both them and you.
The choice is still yours,
