Morning Devotion: Read Luke - Jesus Heals a Blind Beggar
Luke 18:35 And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging: 36 And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant. 37 And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by. 38 And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. 39 And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. 40 And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him, 41 Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. 42 And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee. 43 And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.
Mark records this same event in chapter10:46-52. With that information we find that the beggar’s name was Bartimaeus.
There was a noise and a multitude with Jesus. People excited and walking and talking with and about Jesus cause the ears of blind Bartimaeus to perk up. He had heard the name Jesus; blind Bart had the understanding that Jesus was indeed the Son of David.
We need to understand something at this point, Jesus was God manifest in the flesh. He was all man and all God.
We had a young girl in our children’s church who questioned the fact of Jesus dying, she could not fathom the fact that Jesus who was God could actually die. She thought that God cannot die.
God had to come in the form of man so He could die and so that He could pay the sins of the while world. Philippians 2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
He came to this world as a son of David, in the genealogical line of David fulfilling the word of God.
Matthew 1:1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Blind Bart recognized the fact the Jesus the Son of David was near and knew that He was healing people.
He cried out to the only hope he had. He cried to Jesus the Son of David.
Jesus heard his cry and called for him, even though others wanted to silence blind Bart.
My friend, never let others silence you in your desire to know Jesus. Never allow others to persuade you to try another way. Blind Bart knew Jesus was his only hope.
Jesus asked blind Bart a very important question. Luke 18:41 “What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.”
Jesus answered blind Bart and healed him. Blind Bart was healed by faith. He believed in Jesus the Son of David, the promise of God.
Luke 18:42 And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee. 43 And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.
Notice a great fact, blind Bart followed Jesus.
Mark 10:52 And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
He not only followed Jesus, he followed Jesus in the way. He became a follower of the way of Jesus.
My dear friend, has Jesus healed you spiritually, and are you now following Him in the way, the way of Christianity? Can you see clearly enough to follow Jesus in the way.
John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
The choice is still yours,
