Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 23:1 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee: 2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. 3 Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.
How often are men given to compromise? How often are men given to change or deference because of the opulence of another or to obtain dainties in meats or favour.
As a young man and newly saved, I was introduced to AmWay (now called Star Corporation) and took the challenge to do well by it. I was about 1 month old in the lord Jesus Christ and a novice in living for the Lord.
I began my new venture in AmWay with full tilt rising into its pleasures and profits with all my gusto. Nearing the first month’s completion I was expecting reach the first level of being “Direct.” I had a deal made with a company to buy soap that would cover all of its needs. I would be “Direct” within a few days. I was excited.
To close the deal, we sat a table in the restaurant; laying the contract before us we began to sign the sign deal into completion. I would have made a thousand dollars a month with that deal.
However, the owner of the restaurant chain had wine brought out so we could drink to a deal well made. He poured the wine into the glasses and we both touched our glasses together in a toast and drank. I walked out of that establishment a proud and happy man.
Later, when I returned home I realized I had compromised why walk with God for I had taken a drink of alcohol. I knelt down by my chair and wept before God and asked His forgiveness.
1John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Knowing I was forgiven, I rose from my knees and drove back to the restaurant and spoke with the owner. I told Him I was a Christian and that I had been wrong in drinking to the deal. I tore the contract in half and cancelled the deal. I left restaurant full of joy because I knew I was restored in righteousness with my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and with God.
My Christian friend, have you succumbed to compromise to make a few extra dollars or to gain favour with someone? Have you given in to temptation and sin just to make gain?
Proverbs 23:1 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee: 2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. 3 Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.
Jesus Christ never compromised His walk with God the Father, in fact, He fulfilled ever word of God and went to the cross completely pure and righteous.
Hebrews 10:7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.
Christian, never compromise, never give in to dainties just to make gain. Never sacrifice the permanent on the altar of the temporary.
The choice is still yours,
Pastor Cook
