Morning Devotion: Read Luke - Jesus Weeps over Jerusalem

Luke 19:41  And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, 42  Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. 43  For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, 44  And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

Our Lord Jesus Christ was preparing to enter into Jerusalem where He would give His life for the sin of the world. When He came near the city He wept over the city for Jerusalem and all Israel would reject their Messiah. He laments their destruction.

We learned yesterday, that our Lord knows the beginning from the end and is well aware of what is going to happen in this world, in your life and with all Israel. (When it comes to end time prophecies and knowing what is happening in the world, keep your eyes upon Israel and Jerusalem.)

God tells us what has happened with Israel and what will happen with her again.

We know the prophesies of Daniel had come true when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon led the first destruction of the Jerusalem and destroyed the temple in 587 BC (Before Christ).

We also know that when our Lord wept, He knew what was going to happen again. He knew Jerusalem and the temple would be destroyed again.

In 70 AD, approximately 70 years After the Death (AD) of Christ the city and the temple were destroyed again. During the Roman succession a young. Man named Titus with 48,000 troops and four legions with auxiliary troops besieged and breached the city wall in the winter. They razed the city to the ground and destroyed the temple. They literally broke apart each stone of the temple to take the gold that lay between. Not one stone was left upon another and prophesied in our text.

My friend, all these things happened to Israel because she rejected God the only one who would and could have protected her.

Not only did she reject the Lord then, she rejects the Lord now.

In verse 44 of our text the Lord says, “because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.” In other words, Israel could not see what was going on around her. She could not see nor determine the sings of the times. She could not see Jesus.

What about you, can you see what is going on around you with regard to end time prophecies and biblical happenings in the world today?

Are you ready for the Lord’s return? He returned in our text and the people rejected Him. He was crucified and died and rose from the dead and they still did not believe.

John 1:11  He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

They will chose to receive someone else instead of Jesus and be destroyed as a result. They will chose the antichrist and eventually the beast.

John 5:43  I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

Revelation 13:14  And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. 15  And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. 16  And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

My friend, Jesus is the answer. He loves you and wants you to be saved.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
