Morning Devotion: Read Luke - Sadducees Ask About the Resurrection

Luke 20:27  Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him, 28  Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother. 29  There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children. 30  And the second took her to wife, and he died childless. 31  And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died. 32  Last of all the woman died also. 33  Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife. 34  And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: 35  But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: 36  Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection. 37  Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. 38  For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him. 39  Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast well said 40  And after that they durst not ask him any question at all.

Do you see, do you understand, do you know there is a resurrection?

Jesus rose from the dead and is alive and at the right hand of God the Father, He is the authority over all. All power is given unto Him in heaven and in earth.

That being true should make everyone take notice, for in and through Him we all have our being.

These religious sadducees did not believe the resurrection and tried to corner Jesus with His words. And, once again Jesus answered with a truth that leaves them dumbfounded.

Listen, when a true believer dies, he or she, goes to heaven to be with the Lord. I heaven we are equal to the angels. There will be no babies born in heaven and given their special planets like the mormons teach. (Just to let you know, being equal to the angels does not mean we get wings every time a bell rings.)

Luke 20:36  Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.

We as believers in the living Lord Jesus Christ (Not the Christ on the crucifix as in some religions) know that we are children of our living God, the God of the resurrection.

Paul explains this truth very well. 1Corinthians 15:12  Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13  But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen: 14  And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. 15  Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not. 16  For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: 17  And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. 18  Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. 19  If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. 20  But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

There are some religions out there that openly reveal what they believe about the resurrection; they keep Christ on the cross and walk around with Him on their walking staffs and on their crosses they hang around their necks and on their embroidered cloths. Their communion service is about sacrificing Jesus over and over again by claiming the wafer is the body and the wine is the blood of Christ. They are like the sadducees. Their faith is vain and they are false witnesses of God and yet in their sins.

The true Christian, believes in our resurrected living Lord. He rose from the dead; we can be assured that one day we will also be resurrected and be in heaven with God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

John 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

It is not religion that saves you, it is faith in Christ Jesus.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
