Morning Devotion: Read Luke - Whose Son Is the Christ?
Luke 20:41 And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David's son? 42 And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 43 Till I make thine enemies thy footstool. 44 David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son?
My friend, this passage is the Lord Jesus speaking to those who questioned Him. This was after He told them of their wickedness as tenants and how they questioned Him over His authority with Caesar and the resurrection. They were trying to catch Him on His words to incarcerate Him. It never worked.
Then the Lord said something very important to them. He asked “How say they that Christ is David’s son?”
Then He quoted Psalm 110
Psalm 110 was making Jesus Lord even before He was born on earth because He was Lord as the Alfa and Omega the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Jesus is everlasting. David knew this truth and Christians knew this truth. The sad thing is the religious groups do not see this. Many who claim to be Christians do not know this truth.
Psalm 110:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
Jesus spoke further about what was going to happen.
Luke 20:42 And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 43 Till I make thine enemies thy footstool. 44 David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son?
This is also covered in Psalm 110.
Psalm 110:2 The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies. 3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth. 4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek. 5 The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath. 6 He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries. 7 He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head.
What was Jesus doing here? He was telling these scribes, Pharisees, Sadducees and others that were His enemies would be judged and experience the wrath of God. They were the enemies of God.
Psalm 110:4 The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek. (This speaks of Him being our everlasting God.)
Psalm 110:5 The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath. 6 He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries. 7 He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head.
Psalm 110 just as our text, speaks of the judgment of God when Jesus returns as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Again read the book of Revelation chapters 19-21.
My friend, Jesus was telling these people who hated Him, and being RELIGIOUS people, and not saved, that they were going to meet their demise in judgement.
David also calls his son “Lord”. How can this be? David knew Jesus was born of a virgin even though Mary and Joseph was of his genealogy he knew Jesus was everlasting and called Him Lord just as Mary did.
Luke 1:46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, 47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
Let me ask you, were will you spend eternity when the end comes? Is Jesus your Lord and Saviour?
The choice is still yours,
