Morning Devotion: Read Exodus - The Covenant Confirmed

Exodus 24:1  And he said unto Moses, Come up unto the LORD, thou, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel; and worship ye afar off. 2  And Moses alone shall come near the LORD: but they shall not come nigh; neither shall the people go up with him. 3  And Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the LORD hath said will we do. 4  And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD, and rose up early in the morning, and builded an altar under the hill, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel. 5  And he sent young men of the children of Israel, which offered burnt offerings, and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen unto the LORD. 6  And Moses took half of the blood, and put it in basons; and half of the blood he sprinkled on the altar. 7  And he took the book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the people: and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be obedient. 8  And Moses took the blood, and sprinkled it on the people, and said, Behold the blood of the covenant, which the LORD hath made with you concerning all these words. 9  Then went up Moses, and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel: 10  And they saw the God of Israel: and there was under his feet as it were a paved work of a sapphire stone, and as it were the body of heaven in his clearness. 11  And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God, and did eat and drink.

A covenant in modern terms is a contract, however, this covenant was with God and the people of God. A covenant with God, the God of all that exist, is much different than a contract by human standards.

This covenant followed the ten commandments given from the mount Sinai along with the rest of the law in chapters twenty through twenty three.

The Lord instructs Moses to go down and bring Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel up into the mount but Moses was to come near the LORD.

Moses descends the mount and tells all the priest the elders and the people the law of God.  Their response is overwhelmingly positive.

β€˜And Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the LORD hath said will we do.”

The desire to do and the will to do are two different things. For we find Israel having a desire to do but the will to do often failed them. Several times throughout scriptures we see Israel saying we will do only to see they did not.

Deuteronomy 5:27  Go thou near, and hear all that the LORD our God shall say: and speak thou unto us all that the LORD our God shall speak unto thee; and we will hear it, and do it.

Joshua 24:21 And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve the LORD.

Do you know how you can be one of those who keep the word of the Lord? God gave us the precise plan in Deuteronomy and in New Testament.

Deuteronomy  6:5  And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

Matthew 22:37  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38  This is the first and great commandment. 39  And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40  On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

When you fall in love with the Lord, you will have no problem fulfilling all His desires and commands and will. Loving God with all your being make His commandments easy.

1John 5:3  For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

Matthew 11:29  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

It is not a burden to serve someone you love. 1John 4:19  We love him, because he first loved us.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
