Morning Devotion: Read Exodus - Writing the Ten Commandments

Exodus 24:12  And the LORD said unto Moses, Come up to me into the mount, and be there: and I will give thee tables of stone, and a law, and commandments which I have written; that thou mayest teach them. 13  And Moses rose up, and his minister Joshua: and Moses went up into the mount of God. 14  And he said unto the elders, Tarry ye here for us, until we come again unto you: and, behold, Aaron and Hur are with you: if any man have any matters to do, let him come unto them. 15  And Moses went up into the mount, and a cloud covered the mount. 16  And the glory of the LORD abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days: and the seventh day he called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud. 17  And the sight of the glory of the LORD was like devouring fire on the top of the mount in the eyes of the children of Israel. 18  And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and gat him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights.

What a meeting! Moses was called up to mount Sinai to receive the tables of stone containing the ten commandments. These ten commandments were written by the hand of God. He was there forty days and forty nights. Wow!

Let’s review the ten commandments.

1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

3. Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain…

4. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

5. Honour thy father and thy mother:…

6. Thou shalt not kill.
7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.
8. Thou shalt not steal.
9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
10. Thou shalt not covet…

Now let’s look at the Catholic version:

1. I am the LORD your God. You shall worship the Lord your God and                              Him only shall you serve.

2. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.

3. Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day.

4. Honour your father and your mother.

5. You shall not kill.

6. You shall not commit adultery.

7. You shall not steal.

8. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbour.

9. You shall not covet your neighbour’s wife.

10. You shall not covet your neighbour's goods.

Did you notice the difference? The catholic version left out commandments one and two allowing them to make images and have idol worship. They broke up the tenth commandment into two commandments to replace the first and second commandment.

God hates idolatry, it is an abomination to Him. (Deuteronomy 7:25 and 26)  Catholics embrace what God hates. Let that sink in. That is why they have idols of Mary and dead “saints” and such. The whole Catholic religion is based on idolatry.

My friend, be careful of what you worship and how you worship. Make sure it lines up with the word of God not what man tells you.

1 John 5:20  And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. 21  Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
