Morning Devotion: Read Exodus - Oil for the Lampstand/Candlestick
Exodus 27:20 And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always. 21 In the tabernacle of the congregation without the vail, which is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall order it from evening to morning before the LORD: it shall be a statute for ever unto their generations on the behalf of the children of Israel.
The oil in the candlestick or lamp stand was made for a continual burning and light for the Holy Place in the tabernacle.
The Oil is representative of the Holy Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit of God is to be continually burning in our heart and lives. The Holy Spirit is sometimes referred to as the Spirit of God or the Holy Ghost.
You were created by God and given life by God through the Holy Spirit.
Job 33:4 The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.
Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Through sin, the spirit of man died. The Holy Spirit, upon salvation, gives the believer new life in Christ Jesus.
Romans 8:10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
Let’s read the text again.
The lamp of God was to burn always, it was never to be extinguished. As believers, we are never to quench or extinguish the influence of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
1Thessalonians 5:19 Quench not the Spirit.
In verse twenty-one we read that the priest were to tend to the lamp, check the oil in the lamp in the morning and in the evening. “Aaron and his sons shall order it from evening to morning before the LORD.”
God tells us as born-again believers that we are priest of the new covenant.
1Peter 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
As born again believers, we are priest and we should never ignore or allow the oil or influence of the Spirit of God diminish or go without regard. We are never to allow the light of God’s word to go out.
Do you realize this? when you read God’s word (which was given by the Spirit of God), the author, the Holy Spirit of God is there to help you understand it.
2Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
The instruction to the priest was to never let the fire go out and to tend to the oil in the lamp twice a day.
We as believers, priest of God, are never to allow the fire to go out and we are to tend to the lamp twice a day. Morning and evening devotions, reading your bible and praying is how we tend to the Spirit today.
The choice is still yours,
