Morning Devotion: Read Exodus - The Mitre, the Girdle, the Bonnets and Breeches

Exodus 28:36  And thou shalt make a plate of pure gold, and grave upon it, like the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD. 37  And thou shalt put it on a blue lace, that it may be upon the mitre; upon the forefront of the mitre it shall be. 38  And it shall be upon Aaron's forehead, that Aaron may bear the iniquity of the holy things, which the children of Israel shall hallow in all their holy gifts; and it shall be always upon his forehead, that they may be accepted before the LORD. 39  And thou shalt embroider the coat of fine linen, and thou shalt make the mitre of fine linen, and thou shalt make the girdle of needlework. 40  And for Aaron's sons thou shalt make coats, and thou shalt make for them girdles, and bonnets shalt thou make for them, for glory and for beauty. 41  And thou shalt put them upon Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him; and shalt anoint them, and consecrate them, and sanctify them, that they may minister unto me in the priest's office. 42  And thou shalt make them linen breeches to cover their nakedness; from the loins even unto the thighs they shall reach: 43  And they shall be upon Aaron, and upon his sons, when they come in unto the tabernacle of the congregation, or when they come near unto the altar to minister in the holy place; that they bear not iniquity, and die: it shall be a statute for ever unto him and his seed after him.

These wonderful articles of clothing a were to be worn by the priest when they served the LORD in the tabernacle. The mitre, the girdle, the bonnets and the breeches were made of fine linen. The mitre was of fine linen with a gold plate affixed to the forefront with the engravings saying HOLINESS TO THE LORD.

Exodus 39:28  And a mitre of fine linen, and goodly bonnets of fine linen, and linen breeches of fine twined linen, 29  And a girdle of fine twined linen, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, of needlework; as the LORD commanded Moses. 30  And they made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold, and wrote upon it a writing, like to the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD.

Remember, the gold represents the Deity of the LORD. The white linen represents the purity of the LORD.

The mitre made of fine linen and having a gold plate with HOLINESS TO THE LORD engraved upon it and with blue ribbon woven around the edges was an indicator that the priest should always have the LORD in their mind and in their hearts.

Christian, do you always have the Lord on your mind and heart? Let me remind you again; we are priest unto the Lord.

1Peter 2:9  But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

Romans 12:1  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

When we look at the girdle we see it was made of all the colours of the tabernacle curtains.

Exodus 39:29  And a girdle of fine twined linen, and blue, and purple, and scarlet, of needlework; as the LORD commanded Moses.

The girdle was wrapped around the waist holding the coat, and the robe all together. The girdle’s colours represent the Holiness the Priesthood of Christ (Blue), the Royalty of Christ (Purple), the Sacrifice of Christ (Red) and the Purity of Christ (White).

My friend, we as born-again believers have a girdle that we don as well. Our girdle is part of the armour of God. Our girdle is of Christ our truth. He is our great high priest and of great royalty, our King. He is our one and only sacrifice and is pure in righteousness.

Ephesians 6:13  Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14  Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

Do you know Him?

Christian, do you represent the Lord Jesus Christ in your life? Do you wear the colours of Christ in your heart and mind?

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
