Morning Devotion: Read Exodus - Consecration of the Priests
Exodus 29:1 And this is the thing that thou shalt do unto them to hallow them, to minister unto me in the priest's office: Take one young bullock, and two rams without blemish, 2 And unleavened bread, and cakes unleavened tempered with oil, and wafers unleavened anointed with oil: of wheaten flour shalt thou make them. 3 And thou shalt put them into one basket, and bring them in the basket, with the bullock and the two rams. 4 And Aaron and his sons thou shalt bring unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and shalt wash them with water. 5 And thou shalt take the garments, and put upon Aaron the coat, and the robe of the ephod, and the ephod, and the breastplate, and gird him with the curious girdle of the ephod: 6 And thou shalt put the mitre upon his head, and put the holy crown upon the mitre. 7 Then shalt thou take the anointing oil, and pour it upon his head, and anoint him.
As we read this section, we must understand Moses is still up on the mountain speaking with the LORD. Mount Sinai is where Moses also received the ten commandments and the instructions for the tabernacle and the priests. What we are reading here are the instructions given to Moses for the consecration of the priests. The actual consecrating did not take place until Leviticus chapter eight and nine.
In chapter twenty nine instructions were given for the burnt offering, the sin offering, the wave offering and other offerings that were to take place in the consecration and the minister of the priest in their office.
Today we will focus on the anointing oil in verse seven.
Oil, as we have already learned, is representative of the Holy Spirit. Please understand that God the Father, God the Son (Jesus) and the Holy Spirit are one in the same.
1John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
God, anointed Jesus with oil for the service of the priesthood and for the sacrifice Jesus was to make on calvary’s cross.
Psalm 45:7 Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
Hebrews 1:9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
I am reminded of the time when Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist and the Holy Spirit depended like a dove upon Jesus. At that time God gave testimony of Jesus as He began His earthly ministry as priest.
Luke 3:21 Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened, 22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased. 23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age,…
Yes, my friend, Jesus was anointed by God to be your great high priest. He lowered Himself and became us to serve as our great high priest and be our saviour. He being anointed by God for the service of God was obedient even to death paying for your sins being the ultimate sacrifice.
Speaking about Jesus Hebrews 7:26 says “For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;”
Hebrews 10:9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. 10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
That my friend is exactly what Jesus was anointed for.
If you are participating in sacrifices to save your soul, you are in the wrong place. If you are taking communion where the (unauthorized priest) pretend to turn the wafer into the body of Christ and the wine into the blood of Christ you are in the wrong place. Jesus already made the final, perfect, ultimate sacrifice. There is no need for another.
Place your faith in the one perfect sacrifice anointed by God to do so.
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
The choice is still yours,
