Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 28:24  Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer.

Entitlement is the theme of this present world. Many of our youth believe they are entitled and should be given things and money and time rather than earning it.

We can go to Luke chapter 15 to see such actions.

Luke 15:11  And he said, A certain man had two sons: 12  And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. 13  And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. 14  And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. 15  And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. 16  And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. 17  And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! 18  I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, 19  And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants.

Are or do you believe you are entitled, thinking people owe you something?

As parents get older, often times their children believe they should receive inheritance or some portion of their parents savings or their home or whatever they own, simply because they are their offspring. When they do not receive such they resort to robbery in some way shape of form.

It becomes, “I need it, you give it to me” type of scenario. Rather than I need it I will earn it for myself.

When a person takes from their parents rather than earring things for themselves, the are no better than a robber. When they do so and say “I did nothing wrong” or “It is no transgression” they are no better than a destroyer, destroying another persons life for their own satisfaction.

Proverbs 28:24  Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer.

Rather than being known as a selfish taker, be known as an unselfish giver.

Jesus is the perfect example of the unselfish giver. Matthew 20:28  Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

1Timothy 2:5  For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 6  Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

Would you be like Jesus or would you be known as the taker expecting and never earning of giving?

God gave us something everyone needs but very few receive, eternal life and that through Jesus Christ.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
