Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 28:25  He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.

The proud heart is the puffed up heart that has ever learned humility. It is the heart that never considers itself wrong. In fact it is the person who by self confidence and with a haughty spirit enters into conflict antagonizing those who are to good natured to put up with it.

Proverbs 13:10  Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

This is the person who has not learned the lesson to “put no confidence in the flesh.”

Jeremiah 17:5  Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.

God tells us that the proud person resist the Lord in ignorance causing strife.

1Timothy 6:4  He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, 5  Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.

This type often causes mischief among God’s people. He does not know the joy one has by humbly walking with the Lord who is loving and caring and without flaw.

By the way, let’s get this out and on the table. “God is right one hundred percent of the time.”

The proud may resist and may fight against God using their intellect and knowledge and strength in opposition, but remember, in the final analysis God wins.  Read the book of Revelation.

The last part of this verse gives a promise, those who put their trust in the Lord, not pride, will be satisfied. The phrase “shall be made fat” is synonymous with being satisfied.

Isaiah 58:11  And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.

Proverbs 3:5  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7  Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. 8  It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

You can be the proud contender causing strife or you can be the satisfied one walking with the Lord.

James 4:6  But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
