Morning Devotion: Read Exodus - Bread from Heaven
Exodus 16:11 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 12 I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God. 13 And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host. 14 And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground. 15 And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat. 16 This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents. 17 And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less. 18 And when they did mete it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating. 19 And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning. 20 Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them.
Can God provide a table in the wilderness? Psalms 78:18 And they tempted God in their heart by asking meat for their lust. 19 Yea, they spake against God; they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?
God can provide a table in the wilderness. He can provide for His dear children in their time of need. God said He would provide and He did provide.
However, we see another aspect of God’s provision. It was to prove His people.
Exodus 16:4 Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.
In the evening God brought quails providing fresh fowl for the entire congregation. In the morning there was upon the ground a small round thing called manna. The manna came with the fresh dew upon the ground, when the dew dried, there was God’s food, glorious food for all of His dearly beloved.
The manna from God was another picture of Christ Jesus. All through the scriptures we see the various ways that God reveals Jesus to us, manna is one of them.
John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. 48 I am that bread of life. 49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. 50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
My friend, just as the manna came down from heaven, so God sent the bread of life that all may partake and be saved. Jesus is that bread.
(Please do not confuse the term bread with the communion wafer, for it is not the body of Christ. Many believe they can eat of the wafer and be saved. That is not the case. Read the scriptures carefully for in them ye think ye have eternal life.)
John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. 40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.
The scriptures testify of Christ, the manna was not Christ but a picture of Christ. Those who believe taking the wafer leads to eternal life are trusting the wafer not Christ. Read John 5:39-40 again, carefully, they testify of Christ.
Yes, God can prepare a table in the wilderness, he can provide you with eternal life as well. Would you believe in Jesus?
My born again friend, would you trust the Lord for your daily sustenance as well?
Matthew 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread.
The choice is still yours,
