Morning Devotion: Read Luke - Asking and Receiving According to Need
Luke 11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? 12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
Following the instructions the Lord gave to His disciples he gives examples on praying and what it means.
Prayer, what is it? We see that it is asking and receiving.
What is interesting here is the fact that God gives what is necessary for the individual praying.
If you ask, you will receive. If you seek you will find. If you knock it will be opened unto you. So, why not ask, seek and find, but ask, seek and find to God. And, you must ask in faith, believing.
James 1:6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. 8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
If you remember the first part of the example in Luke, you will find that the man asked his neighbour with importunity. In other words, he knew his neighbour had what he needed and he wasn’t going to stop asking until his request was answered.
How many people ask without faith and ask not really believing God will answer their prayer? That is lack of faith.
Another thing to remember is that God gives according to your need. Again, the example is that the man received what he needed. We are further strengthened knowing God will not give us what we do not need. He will not give us a scorpion for the request of an egg, nor will He give us a rock for request of a fish. He will give us what we need.
I and reminded of a story where a child was in another room with his nanny. The child was crying because he wanted something and the nanny was adamant in refusing the child what he wanted. She kept saying “no, no, no.” The Child kept crying “I want it, I want it.”
The mother in the next room, not seeing but hearing the commotion with a rather stern voice said “Give the child what he wants.” Immediately the boy started to scream. The boy wanted a bumble bee.
God will not always give you what you want. He will give you what you need.
The greatest need any man has is Jesus. If you ask, seek and knock for the Lord and His salvation through His Son Jesus, you will not be refused.
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved
Isaiah 55:6 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
After one is saved, they become a child of God. God takes care of His children.
Are you a child of the Lord?
The choice is still yours,
