Morning Devotion: Read Luke - Jesus’ supremacy
Luke 11:14 And he was casting out a devil, and it was dumb. And it came to pass, when the devil was gone out, the dumb spake; and the people wondered. 15 But some of them said, He casteth out devils through Beelzebub the chief of the devils. 16 And others, tempting him, sought of him a sign from heaven. 17 But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house divided against a house falleth. 18 If Satan also be divided against himself, how shall his kingdom stand? because ye say that I cast out devils through Beelzebub. 19 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges. 20 But if I with the finger of God cast out devils, no doubt the kingdom of God is come upon you. 21 When a strong man armed keepeth his palace, his goods are in peace: 22 But when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him all his armour wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils. 23 He that is not with me is against me: and he that gathereth not with me scattereth.
We find the account of this happening in Matthew chapter 12 and Mark chapter 3.
Please keep in mind that these folks were claiming that Jesus did what He did by the power of the devil. (Jesus did what He did because He is God and all things are subject to Him.)
Let me remind you that the devil is a created being and subject to God. Everything God created belongs to God and is subject to God whether they think so or not.
Colossians 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Revelation 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
These people did not realize that the devils were subject to Christ and the devils were also subject to the Apostles and the seventy that Jesus ordained in chapter 10.
Luke 10:17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
We read of their subjection in Matthew.
Matthew 8:28 And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way. 29 And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time?
The devils know that Jesus is the Son of God and they know that they have a destiny of eternal torment. The sad thing is this, man does not know.
We, the born again believers, have no problem with this idea, this truth of being subject to God through our Lord Jesus Christ. In fact, we know there is salvation and safety and great assurance in our relationship with Him.
While the world rejects and deflects and accuses the Lord and His work, we accept and embrace and trust in His great saving power.
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
I will rejoice in heaven with the Lord. Revelation 19:1 And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God:
When you hear about Jesus, what do you think? is He the Christ, God manifest in the flesh? Your eternity rest upon what you believe.
Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
The choice is still yours,
