Morning Devotion: Read Luke - The Return of an Unclean Spirit
Luke 11:24 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out. 25 And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished. 26 Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first.
Matthew 12:45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.
You mark it down; there is a spiritual war going on in this world. No, it is not middle earth like the movies talk about, and it is not werwolves and vampires which do not exist as the movies portray. I often wonder how many people believe that stuff because of the what the movies portray. One thing you must always remember when watching movies, or T.V. shows, they are scripted. That means another person, through the imagination wrote about such things. The mind of man can be very dangerous.
Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
The war is with satan and his imps called demons. He is the one who affects the mind and heart of man. That war is not of flesh, it is spiritual.
Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Jesus is far above these things and has power over all these things.
Ephesians 1:21 Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: 22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, 23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.
In our text we find the Lord speaking of demons having left a person, (Remember, the context is about people thinking he was Beelzebub the chief of the devils.) and after leaving a person the demons return to that person and that person is made worse than he was before. The demons have their way with the unsaved man.
People blame God for a lot of things, when in fact, it is their own doings that bring them to situations like the scenarios listed in Luke 11.
If you are a born again believer, you have the Holy Spirit of God dwelling in you.
John 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
If you have Jesus you cannot be possessed by the devil, for righteousness cannot dwell with unrighteousness, and light cannot dwell with darkness.
1John 1:5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
If you do not have Jesus, you are subject to all the influences and wickedness the devil and his demons can throw at you. You are defenceless.
The greatest thing a non-believer can do is turn to Jesus, trusting Him to save them.
As a born again believer, please remember Jesus is there with you and in you.
1John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
If you are a born again believer, the best thing you can do in this spiritual war is to draw near to God. Pray and read your bible often.
James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
Be on the winning side, be born again.
The choice is still yours,
