Morning Devotion: Read Philippians
Philippians 2:1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, 2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Are you a person of reputation? Maybe we should rephrase that and ask, are you person of pride because of reputation?
Abraham was a person of reputation and humble before God. David was a person of reputation and humble before God.
A Christian can be of great reputation and be humble before God. However, the draw is always there to think that one, because of reputation or wealth or pomp and glory, can think of themselves more highly than they aught.
Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
Our Lord Jesus was of great reputation; He left the glories of heaven and made Himself of no reputation so you and I might have eternal life.
Let’s bring that down to us, you and I; do we, especially during this time of year, esteem others better than ourselves?
That is the mind of Christ. Philippians 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
To help with that idea Paul writes: Colossians 2:6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
By faith the Christian received Christ Jesus in humility. That is how we should live.
There is nothing wrong with making yourself of no reputation for the sake of others.
Philippians 2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
The choice is still yours,
