Morning Devotion: Read Genesis 17

Genesis 17:17  Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?

Genesis 17:19  And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.

Genesis 21:1  And the LORD visited Sarah as he had said, and the LORD did unto Sarah as he had spoken. 2  For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. 3  And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac. 4  And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him.

God promised to give Abraham a seed, a child, an heir that would be in the genealogy of Christ Jesus from the earthly perspective. Isaac was his name.

Genesis 15:5  And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.

God made the promise to a man who was a hundred years old and his wife who was ninety years old. They believed God would do as He said.

Romans 4:18  Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. 19  And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb: 20  He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; 21  And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.

Upon their belief, God gave them both the strength needed to bring forth a child into this world.

God did the same thing with Elizabeth and Zacharias

Luke 1:7  And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years.

Luke 1:11  And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense. 12  And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. 13  But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John. 14  And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.

God said both of these families would have a child in their old age. In doing so God had to give their bodies the strength of a young person to have that child.

God said it God did it.

Isaiah 55:11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Matthew 1:1  The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham. 2  Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;

Matthew 1:16  And Jacob (of the new Testament) begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

God has promised this world new life as well, that life in in the seed promised to Abraham. The seed of Abraham through Isaac, and Jacob was Jesus.

There is new life for anyone who would trust in the Lord Jesus Christ the promised one. Would you believe, would you be fully persuaded in the saving power of God through the promised seed Jesus?

John 20:31  But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
