Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 19:28 An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity. 29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
Ungodliness is that which prevents man from seeing God. The mere word itself means no God. He who is without God is known by his speech for it is also ungodly.
The mouth of the ungodly person devours, ingest and lives off iniquity. It gives the idea that the ungodly person consumes iniquity. Have you ever heard the phrase; “You are what you eat?”
The word scorn for the scorner is the word which means - Extreme contempt; that disdain which springs from a person's opinion of the meanness of an object, and a consciousness or belief of his own superiority or worth. (Webster’s Dictionary 1828)
God tells us that the godly person is the opposite of the ungodly; in fact the godly person, who embraces godliness, is blessed.
Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
When we compare our text, Proverbs 19:29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools, we find judgment awaits the ungodly scorner. (The judgment here is God’s judgment not ours.)
Psalms 1:4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. 5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6 For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
In fact, God scorns the scorner. Proverbs 3:34 Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.
In the light of truth and judgment the scorner will even scorn this message not knowing the truth nor the judgment of God.
The bible teaches us that that which come from within the man defiles the because that which comes out of the man comes from the heart. Mark 7:20-23
My dear friend, what is in your heart? Are you a scorner scorning the things of God? Are you without Christ Jesus and His gracious love and salvation?
Proverbs 1:22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
We also know that the ungodly scorner scorned our Lord Jesus Christ.
Psalm 22:7 All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, 8 He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.
My friend, do you scorn Jesus and His gracious love and salvation?
My friend, blessed is the man that trusts the Lord not the man that scorns the Lord.
The choice is still yours,
