Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 20:1  Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

How many lives and how many families have been destroyed by this vice and the intemperance in believing it is ok. Wine, considered to be the least harsh, is the mocker. It gives the appearance of something not so bad and of little affect so it is indulged upon. The partaker of wine does not consider the mockery that follows for the wine is the stepping to strong drink. So, the mockery begins as wine leads to stronger and stronger drink which becomes raging.

Have you ever noticed, the commercials portraying the wine and the beer never reveal the tragedy that comes through consumption? All they ever show is the revelry and party and good times. Ultimately, in the end, it mocks the user with tragedy.

Oh, you say, only a social nip here and there is ok. My friend, you are beginning on the path to mockery and don’t know it. That which follows is strong drink and with that comes the rage.

The sad thing is that many of the churches today allow the partaking of such calling it social; saying, “Why, even Jesus made wine at the wedding of Cana.” They do not realize that the wine Jesus made was merely grape juice the fruit of the vine.

The word “good” in John chapter two verse ten is the same word used to describe Jesus as the “Good Shepherd.” It means no corruption, no rotting process, no fermentation, good juice! Yet churches that claim to love the Lord Jesus violate even that simple principle.

Why, even the Lord’s communion is violated with this alcoholic intrusion as churches claim it to be in remembrance of Jesus and His shed blood. How atrocious, how subtle and condemning is this ordinance when used in mockery of Jesus and His shed blood. Jesus never, ever had alcohol in His blood.

1Corinthians 11:27  Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

In my area, even the baptist churches have fallen prey and allow such mockery in their social light.

My friend, when the “man of God” stands a preaches the Word of God, and you know he allows such mockery, just remember, you are hearing an unwise person; he has already been deceived.

Proverbs 20:1  Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

The mere fact of thinking it is ok to drink fermented wine and strong drink means you have been deceived.

We are warned of deception.

1Corinthians 15:33  Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

Galatians 6:7  Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
