Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 19:26  He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.

Proverbs 19:27  Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.

When both of theses verses are looked at closely we will find that the child that wasteth his father, rather wasteth his father’s substance and effort and wisdom, and chaste away his mother’s influence is a child that brings great shame and reproach.

Verse 27 is our focus today. It is a very important verse when tied to verse 26. Simply put, the verse says; “stop listening to the instruction, the information, and world wisdom, that is what’s making you deviate from the truth.” In other words, just stop it! Find the truth and trust it.

The word of God is replete with warnings of false teachers and those who would deceive and turn you to anything other than God.

It is a misnomer for anyone to believe that they can listen to all kinds of theories and advice of both good and bad and not believe it will have an affect on him. Most of the time this kind of thinking ends in a ruined life.

You can recognize truth from error if you are grounded in truth. Jesus is the truth. The word of God is the truth.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 1:14  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Psalm 119:160  Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.

The litmus test for truth and error can be gaged or determined by one simple question; Matthew 22:42a  Saying, What think ye of Christ?

Answer: 1John 4:2  Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3  And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

Remember, anything other than truth is error and that spirit of error comes from the devil never from God. The devil is a liar.

John 8:44  Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

All influencers and teachers and media (internet, tv, written, audio and visual) can influence you. Be careful what you believe. Always compare it to the truth.

Proverbs 19:27  Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.

The Lord Jesus Christ gives us warning about deception in this last days.

Matthew  24:3  And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? 4  And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5  For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

Once you know the truth you can spot the error.

Romans 16:17  Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them. 18  For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.

Would you answer the question; What think ye of Christ?

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
