Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 21:2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.
The self-righteous man is never wrong, He is right in his own eyes. This is nothing more than pride manifesting itself in the heart of which the LORD ponders.
How does one know if they are self-righteous?
Let’s look at the parable of the Pharisee and the publican.
Luke 18:9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: 10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. 11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican. 12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess. 13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. 14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
Did you notice, the Pharisee, which was religious, used the word “I”. I did this, or I did that; it was all about I and what I did. While the publican, simply realizing his condition, sought the mercy of the Lord.
God saves the person who knows they are a sinner.
Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
Luke 5:32 I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
He who thinks he has no need of repentance is far from salvation.
God is the only one who can see your heart. You can fool others into thinking you are good. You can even fool yourself into thinking you are good. You cannot fool God, He sees your heart.
Proverbs 16:2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the LORD weigheth the spirits.
Proverbs 21:2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.
The choice is still yours,
