Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 21:3  To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.

To do that which is right with God is so much more important than to do sacrifice. Sacrificing to God is often a cop-out to replace doing what is right. The process is done all over the world. People will go to the confessional booth, light candles, genuflect, pay indulgences, pray their rosaries, get baptized, take communion and give money to the church, never turning from sin but counting the process an alleviation of the penalty of sin.

God says to do justice (doing right) and judgement (making right decisions on what is right and what is wrong) is more important than going through the process of religious acts.

We read about that in 1 Samuel 15 when King Saul was to destroy a wicked and sinful people, their animals and all they had to protect the nation of Israel. He did not obey God.

Samuel, the prophet of God, went to King Saul and rebuked him by the word of God.

1Samuel 15:22  And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

King Saul ended up making a sacrifice, a false repentance, to make himself look good in the eyes of the LORD. God saw through his hypocrisy and rebuked him and took away his kingdom and gave it to David.

Christian, there is no circumventing obedience to God; do what is right trusting the Lord through the process.

My unsaved friend, don’t trust in your good works, or personal sacrifices when it comes to salvation. Turn from sin and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ to save your soul. No amount of sacrifice or religious antics can save your soul. Only Jesus can save you. Trust Him.

Ephesians 2:8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9  Not of works, lest any man should boast.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
