Morning Devotion: Read Exodus - A Final Plague Threatened

Exodus 11:1  And the LORD said unto Moses, Yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt; afterwards he will let you go hence: when he shall let you go, he shall surely thrust you out hence altogether. 2  Speak now in the ears of the people, and let every man borrow of his neighbour, and every woman of her neighbour, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold. 3  And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh's servants, and in the sight of the people. 4  And Moses said, Thus saith the LORD, About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt: 5  And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts. 6  And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there was none like it, nor shall be like it any more. 7  But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel. 8  And all these thy servants shall come down unto me, and bow down themselves unto me, saying, Get thee out, and all the people that follow thee: and after that I will go out. And he went out from Pharaoh in a great anger. 9  And the LORD said unto Moses, Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you; that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt. 10  And Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh: and the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go out of his land.

Our Lord knows the end of each individual, nation and this world. He knows what will drive you to your wits end and what it will take to change you. God created mankind, He knows everything about that which he created.

He says to Moses, “Yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt; afterwards he will let you go hence:”

God knows exactly how much a person can take. With that in mind we are reminded that knows exactly how much His own children can take.

When we say children, we mean those who are His by the new birth. There are many, who like Pharaoh, are not God’s children. Just because God created you does not mean you are His child. You only become a child of the King by the new birth.

John 3:3  Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

1Peter 1:23  Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Now, God knows just how much His children can take. With that in mind let me remind you, God kept the plagues from His people while Egypt suffered.

He knows how much you can take before you crack, give up, or throw in the towel. As a child of God, He promised He will not tempt you with something more than you can handle. If there is something in your life causing trouble, it is there because God knew you could handle it.

1Corinthians 10:13  There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

He spared those in Goshen but allowed the rest of Egypt to suffer. You cannot win if you chose to argue, challenge or fight against God.

We also see this separation caused the Egyptians to lend to God’s people.

Exodus 11:2  Speak now in the ears of the people, and let every man borrow of his neighbour, and every woman of her neighbour, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold. 3  And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh's servants, and in the sight of the people.

Remember, God knows. God told Moses, long before, while he was in the wilderness speaking to the LORD in the burning bush, that His people would spoil the Egyptians.

Exodus 3:22  But every woman shall borrow of her neighbour, and of her that sojourneth in her house, jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: and ye shall put them upon your sons, and upon your daughters; and ye shall spoil the Egyptians.

My friend, would you trust in the Lord for your salvation and be a part of the blessing not the curse?

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
