Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 28:1  The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.

The guilty soul, the cowardly soul, is always looking over their shoulder because of some offence or crime they have committed. Being concerned about capture or being found out makes one very leery. The shadows bring fright and the fear or thought of being found out niggles at the heart causing a person to flee when there is really no reason.

Jeremiah 20:4a For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself,…

Psalms 53:5a  There were they in great fear, where no fear was:…

Sin will always keep the sinner in perpetual fear, but the righteous, knowing they are secure in righteousness, will be bold as a lion.

The enemy has no power over the righteous.

In reading Daniel chapter three we find a great example of three men who were bold as a lion because of righteousness. King Nebuchadnezzar had constructed a large golden statue and required all the realm to worship it. Shedrach, Meshach and Abednego refused because they were believers in the one true God. They were brought before the king and threatened with death if they did not bow. Their response was bold as a lion.

Daniel 3:16  Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. 17  If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. 18  But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

I am also reminded of Peter and the apostles who were arrested for preaching the gospel. When they were released by God, they again captured and were questioned about their continued preaching when the religious government told them to stop. Their response was bold as a lion. (Read Acts chapter 5.)

Acts 5:27  And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them, 28  Saying, Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this man's blood upon us. 29  Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

Sometimes the believer struggles with the same situation when they sin against the Lord. Their fear is that God will be angry and forgiveness will be lost.

My Christian friend, God does hate sin but God loves His dear children, that’s you. He has given us His word to help us in times of failure. Remember Jesus paid for our sins on the cross of Calvary.

When you sin you have an advocate Jesus Christ the righteous.

1John 2:1  My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2  And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

We can go to our loving saviour and find forgiveness of sin and be restored to righteousness.

1John 1:9  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Don’t spend your days in fear, be bold in the Lord.
