Morning Devotion: Read Exodus - The Passover and the Cross
Exodus 12:3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house: 4 And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb. 5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: 6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. 7 And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. 8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. 9 Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof. 10 And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire. 11 And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD'S passover.
All through the scriptures we find references pointing to Jesus. Here in our text we see it once again.
Chapter twelve is a pinnacle chapter of the book of Exodus and the redemption of Israel from Egypt.
God commanded Israel to prepare a lamb and gave instructions on how and why it was to be done.
This lamb was to be chosen from the flocks on the tenth day of Abib, the first month of the year. That lamb was to be kept until the fourteenth day. It was to be a one year old male lamb without blemish. (How would you know if a lamb was without blemish? You would naturally have to inspect it. Check it out, check the skin, the wool the eyes the teeth legs and head, everything was to be inspected for flaws.) It had to be a perfect lamb, a lamb without blemish.
My friend, God was revealing to Israel and you the truth that a lamb had to be without flaw, blemish, (without sin) to be killed for their salvation.
It was a picture of Jesus the sinless lamb of God who was sacrificed on the cross for you.
When John the Baptist, met Jesus on the bank of the Jordan river he proclaimed Jesus was that lamb of God.
John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
Only the sinless, only the one without blemish could ever pay for the sins of the world and specifically, your sins. Jesus is that one lamb of God who is sinless.
2Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
1 John 3:5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
You and I are sinners, we were born in sin and live in sin; we are the ones with the blemish and fault. Just as the Hebrews needed a lamb without blemish to save them from death, so we need the sinless lamb of God to save us from eternal death.
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
If you are trusting in anything else to save your soul you are trusting in a sinful solution. No man on this earth, yourself included, is without sin.
Only the sinless lamb of God can save you.
The choice is still yours,
