Morning Devotion: Read Exodus - All of Christ in all of You
Exodus 12:8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. 9 Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof. 10 And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire. 11 And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD'S passover. 12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. 13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. 14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.
The final plague upon Egypt was the death of the firstborn male child in each family. This plague was to show that God is sovereign over all. All the first born of man and beast which was dedicated to the gods of Egypt would die by the hand of the most high God.
Exodus 11:5 And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts.
The protection from God’s wrath was blood, more specifically the blood of a lamb. The blood of the slain lamb was to be placed on the side post and upper and lower parts of the door frame forming a cross.
The lamb was to be perfect without flaw. The lamb was to be inspected for imperfections, if any thing was imperfect it was rejected. God demands perfection for any form of redemption. Jesus is the perfect lamb of God. As the sinless lamb, Jesus was sacrificed on the cross of Calvary for each and every person. Only those who partake of that lamb can be saved.
Notice in our text, each family and each person in that family was to consume the sacrificial lamb. It was to be cooked thoroughly by roasting. All of it was to be consumed. The flesh, the purtenance; everything was to be consumed. The whole lamb was to be eaten. If there was anything left it was to be burned.
My friend, this is a picture of total commitment to the word of God concerning the lamb of God. The lamb of God being Jesus.
It simply means this; if you do not have all of Jesus, Jesus does not have all of you. You cannot be halfway dedicated to Jesus when it comes to salvation. There is no such thing as a halfway Christian.
Jesus uses a metaphor in John chapter six about consuming all of Him. THIS IS ONLY A METAPHOR revealing the same concept of total commitment and surrender to Jesus. (This is not referring to communion where catholics believe they are eating the actual body and blood of Christ. That is cannibalism.)
Jesus, speaking of the manna God gave Israel is another METAPHOR of the same concept. A Metaphor is an implied comparison. Metaphors also use phrases and clauses called idioms, like, “ye are the salt of the earth.”
John 6:53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. 54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. 58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.
Notice how Jesus clarifies that he is speaking spiritually not physically. John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.
The consumption of the actual lamb in Exodus is a picture of total commitment to Christ. All of these examples are to show us that there must be a total surrender to Christ. Again, if you do not have all of Jesus, Jesus does not have all of you. There is no such thing as a halfway Christian.
The choice is stilly yours,
