Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 15:6  In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.

Proverbs 15:16  Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.

The righteous? the house of the righteous has much treasure?

There are several kinds of treasure, there is treasure of gold and silver and things this world provides; there is treasure in family and friends, there spiritual treasures which abound in Christ.

A person may have treasure of earthly value and be poor in spiritual things.

Earthly riches may bring friends, but are they genuine?

Proverbs 14:20  The poor is hated even of his own neighbour: but the rich hath many friends.

The book of proverbs teaches us that there is great treasure in wisdom.

Proverbs 3:13  Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. 14  For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. 15  She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. 16  Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour. 17  Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. 18  She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.

Yes, a person can be rich in the wisdom of God.

Where is your treasure and what is your treasure? Is your treasure your security, your hope in earthly things or is it in the Lord?

Lay Up Treasures in Heaven

Matthew 6:19  Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20  But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21  For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. 22  The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. 23  But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! 24  No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

Proverbs 15:6  In the house of the righteous is much treasure: but in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.

Proverbs 15:16  Better is little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble therewith.

My friend, the truest type of riches is found in Christ and with that, the wisdom of God.

2Corinthians 8:9  For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.

Jesus left the riches of heaven and was made a little lower than the angels; He went to Calvary’s cross and died shedding His blood, and was buried and rose again from the dead that you might be rich in salvation, in Him, for all eternity.

Would you be rich in Christ Jesus? Would you be rich in wisdom?

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
