Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 15:8  The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight. 9  The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.

Proverbs 15:26  The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.

Proverbs 15:29  The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.

When God speaks of one who is wicked He speaks of that person or person who knows not God; God is speaking about the unsaved person even the religious person who knows not God. Nobody likes to think of themselves as wicked.

The way of the wicked, the unsaved, non-believer, can sacrifice and even pray, but those works are an abomination to God.

WICKED, adjective [The primary sense is to wind and turn, or to depart, to fall away.]

  1. Evil in principle or practice; deviating from the divine law; addicted to vice; sinful; immoral. This is a word of comprehensive signification, extending to every thing that is contrary to the moral law, and both to persons and actions. We say, a wicked man, a wicked deed, wicked ways, wicked lives, a wicked heart, wicked designs, wicked works.

The wicked in Scripture, persons who live in sin; transgressors of the divine law; all who are unreconciled to God, unsanctified or impenitent. (Webster’s dictionary 1828)

There you have it, wickedness is a transgression of divine law.

To transgress divine law or the law of God rests upon each and every person, because every single person is born in sin. It is something that was passed down from our great ancestor Adam. Consequently, all men sin and live in wickedness until Jesus saves their soul and they become a new creature in Christ Jesus.

Romans 5:12  Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Romans 3:10  As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

Romans 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

The way of the wicked, the sacrifice of the wicked, the prayers of the wicked and even the thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to God. However, the righteous have a different relationship with the LORD. Why? because they are different, they are changed in salvation.

2Corinthians 5:17  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

The righteous are loved by the LORD and their prayers are His delight. The words of the righteous are peasant to the LORD and He hears those words, He knows their thoughts. The LORD loves those who follow after righteousness. Why? because those dear saints are children of the LORD.

John 1:12  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13  Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Are you righteous in Christ Jesus or are you still wicked apart from God? Either you are a born again believer or you are not. Either you are righteous in Christ Jesus or you are still wicked.

My dear friend, would you turn to the LORD and be saved?  Would you become a new creature in Christ Jesus. Would you be on the righteous end of the above verses in proverbs?

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
