Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs - Abomination
Proverbs 15:8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD: but the prayer of the upright is his delight. 9 The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.
Proverbs 15:26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words.
Proverbs 15:29 The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
Yesterday we were able to see that the non-believer, the unsaved, or as the word of God calls it, the ungodly are the wicked of this world. While many think themselves to be ok with God and yet commit sin, their prayers, sacrifices and their ways are an abomination to God.
What is an abomination?
Are you and your actions and works an abomination?
ABOMINA'TION, noun. 1. Extreme hatred; detestation.
2. The object of detestation, a common signification in scripture.
The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord. Proverbs 15:8.
3. Hence, defilement, pollution, in a physical sense, or evil doctrines and practices, which are moral defilements, idols and idolatry, are called abominations. The Jews were an abomination to the Egyptians; and the sacred animals of the Egyptians were an abomination to the Jews. (Webster’s dictionary 1828)
The world seems to think that the Lord loves everyone and that is true, however, the hates the workers of iniquity.
Psalm 11:5 The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.
Psalm 45:7 Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
There are a lot of things the LORD hates.
Proverbs 6:16 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
If you say you love the Lord, then you aught to hate evil as well, you cannot do both.
Psalm 97:10 Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.
In our modern world of Christianity, there is a movement that embraces evil and wickedness and while claiming to know and love the Lord Jesus Christ. We recently saw that with the alternative Super Bowl show claiming to be a turning point.
Matthew 6:24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
You cannot embrace that which God hates and claim to love the Lord. You simply cannot do both.
No where in the scriptures do you find God accepting sin and condoning sin for sin is an abomination. The whole reason Jesus went to the cross to die was to pay for sin with His shed blood. If God condones that which Jesus died for then Jesus’ death was mute, worthless and without merit. The idea of living the way you want and God will love you into heaven is false.
Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
The only thing to do is repent of your sin and turn to Jesus to save your soul, without which everything you do is considered an abomination to the Lord.
Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
The choice is still yours,
