Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 13:19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil. 20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
DESIRE, noun
An emotion or excitement of the mind, directed to the attainment or possession of an object from which pleasure, sensual, intellectual or spiritual, is expected; a passion excited by the love of an object, or uneasiness at the want of it, and directed to its attainment or possession. desire is a wish to possess some gratification or source of happiness which is supposed to be obtainable. A wish may exist for something that is or is not abtainable. desire when directed solely to sensual enjoyment, differs little from appetite. In other languages, desire is expressed by longing or reaching toward, and when it is ardent or intense, it approaches to longing, but the word in English usually expresses less than longing.
DESIRE is that internal act, which, by influencing the will, makes us proceed to action. (Websters dictionary 1828)
There are two types people with desires, the desire of the fool or wicked and the desire of the righteous.
The desire the wicked is described in Ephesians.
Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; 2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: 3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
Every person on this planet past, present, and future has or will experience desire of the wicked until they are saved born again, then, their desires change to godly desires.
When the hearts desire is accomplished or obtained the heart rejoices. The heart of the fool rejoices in obtaining unbridled passions. He refuses to consider the idea that iniquity is to be shunned.
The greatest hearts desire for the believer is to be with Jesus for all eternity.
Colossians 3:1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
1Thessalonians 2:19 For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?
While in the pursuit of fulfilling godly desires we should walk in the companionship with the wise.
Proverbs 13:19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil. 20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.
Companionship with those of godly wisdom, brings wisdom in the pursuit of godly desires.
By the way, what is a fool?
Psalm 53:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.
There you have it, the fool has no desire for God and rejects God. They only have desire to satisfy their flesh. The wisdom of God brings one to desire the Lord.
What you desire reveals what type of person you are.
The choice is still yours,
