Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 13:21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.

Have you ever met that person who seems to have trouble all the time, that man that appears to have trouble ever following him?

The Lord tells us that evil pursues the sinner. That word evil often means trouble and sorrows and trials.

All through these proverbs we find the sinner pursues evil only to find evil has been pursuing him all along. The hunter of sin becomes the hunted of sin.

Psalms 32:10  Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the LORD, mercy shall compass him about.

Psalms 140:11  Let not an evil speaker be established in the earth: evil shall hunt the violent man to overthrow him.

Evil or troubles become the norm of sinners by natural consequences which may include future retribution, physical problems, bad reputation and more. The evil can be remorse, and a conscience that that niggles the heart with worry.

David said that his sin was always bothering him. Psalms 51:3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.

His sin of adultery did follow him. He lost his son who flagrantly displayed his fathers sin on the kings roof top.

The other side of this proverb is the rewards to the righteous.

Proverbs 13:21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.

Psalms 32:10  Many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the LORD, mercy shall compass him about.

Isaiah 3:10  Say ye to the righteous, that it shall be well with him: for they shall eat the fruit of their doings. 11  Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.

We find another comparison in the book of Romans.

Romans 2:7  To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: 8  But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, 9  Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; 10  But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:

The beginning of righteousness is from the Lord; we are born again into righteousness. Then, after that birth, we live righteous lives that honour and glorify the Lord.

Evil pursues sinners but to the righteous there is both physical and eternal blessings.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
