Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 14:1  Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.

Even though much of the proverbs were written for the son from the father and the mother concerning wisdom for the son, the instruction here is that wisdom is needed with all members of the family.

A wise woman builds her house; the implication is that an unwise woman does not.

Proverbs 24:3  Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: 4  And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

Without the wisdom of God the house is divided. A divided house cannot stand; in fact any house or business or organization or church divided against itself cannot stand.

We find this principle being expressed in the life of Jesus when the religious people accused Him false power committing the unpardonable sin.

Matthew 12:22  Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. 23  And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David? 24  But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. 25  And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: 26  And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand?

How many homes do you know of that have been broken, divided and destroyed because one spouse or the other did not use wisdom in the home.

Here is wisdom concerning the home. Christ is the head of each person in the home. The husband is the head of the house, the woman is the helpmeet in the home and the children are subject to the parents.

Ephesians 5:22  Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23  For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24  Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

Ephesians 6:1  Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. 2  Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) 3  That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

When these things are in proper order the whole house is strong and undivided, the home is unified.

Ecclesiastes 4:9  Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. 10  For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. 11  Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? 12  And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

(The threefold cord is God, the husband and the wife.)

The question that is obvious today is this: are you building your house or are you the dividing factor in your house? If there is constant bickering and arguing and dispute in the family there is division. Demanding ones own way rather than way God planned is outside of wisdom and the house will be plucked down as a precious and sweet fruit is plucked from the tree and destroyed.

Proverbs 14:1  Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.

Wisdom, godly wisdom, comes from the Lord. Are you born again receiving from the Lord wisdom? Are you reading God’s word? Are you spending time in prayer with the Lord?

Proverbs 2:6  For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. 7  He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. 8  He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
