Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 14:9 Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.
The word “mock” is also translated as scorn, derision and even teacher yes, teacher, as one who teaches another to mock and scorn sin or the consequences of it.
Isaiah 43:27 Thy first father hath sinned, and thy teachers have transgressed against me.
Did you know, by your actions, you can teach your children to mock sin? You can teach your children to scorn sin and the consequences of sin.
Mocking son is using sin or partaking in sin and laughing about it as if it were a funny thing to violate God’s will. Mocking sin is paramount to throwing it in the face of those who live righteously. To mock means to make fun of or enjoy sin in mockery in the face of truth and righteousness.
I am reminded of Belshazzar when he took the vessels of the house of God and mocked God by worshipping idols. His kingdom was destroyed immediately after God wrote his sentence on the a wall: Daniel 5:1 Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand. 2 Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein. 3 Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them. 4 They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone. 5 In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaister of the wall of the king's palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. 6 Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another.
Daniel 5:30 In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.
People can also mock sin by making or accusing the righteous of being the ones who sin. They did that with Job when Elihu accused righteous job of scorning God.
Job 34:7 What man is like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water? 8 Which goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men. 9 For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God. 10 Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity. 11 For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.
We see that in our world today. It seems every branch of society, government and political structures and even in the home, there are those who accuse the righteous of mocking sin.
Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
They accused Jesus, the sinless one, of doing evil? They accused Him of operating in the power of the devil and breaking the laws of the temple and breaking the sabbath and a host of others things, when in fact the accusers were doing exactly what they were accusing Jesus of doing. This is a tactic used today by many people who wish to divert attention away from their own mocking of sin placing a false blame on the righteous.
In the end, Job’s accusers were wrong, Belshazzar was wrong, Jesus’ accusers were wrong and those who mock sin will be wrong.
My friend never mock sin, never think, believe or consider doing sinful things to be right. One day every person will be judged according to those kinds of works. (Revelation 20:11-14)
There is one thing everyone can do when it comes to righteousness over sin; trust in the Lord Jesus and His efficacious work and shed blood on the cross of Calvary. When that happens, there is favour with God.
Proverbs 14:9 Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous there is favour.
The choice is still yours,
