Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs
Proverbs 26:2 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.
Birds are free, flying where they will without restraint. There is no worry with them for our heavenly father feeds them.
This proverb relates the freedom of the bird to a causeless curse. A causeless curse comes from the fool who knows not God. Remember, the first twelve verses of this proverb deal specifically with the fool. A fool is one who knows not God and say no to God. A fool is against God and those things with truly be of God.
Psalm 53:1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.
With that in mind, we often see the fool will curse that which is good and right. That kind of cursing will not come to fruition according to God’s word.
I am reminded of Goliath who cursed God and the God of Israel.
1Samuel 17:43 And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. 44 And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field. 45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
We all know how that ended. 1Samuel 17:49 And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in his forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth. 50 So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.
David was cursed again by a member of Saul’s family.
2Samuel 16:5 And when king David came to Bahurim, behold, thence came out a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera: he came forth, and cursed still as he came.
We all know how that ended.
1Kings 2:46 So the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; which went out, and fell upon him, that he died. And the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon.
In these cases the foolish spoke the curse but the curse was causeless and had no merit. The curse flys away like the bird. The curse will eventually be turned back upon the foolish.
My friend when the lost curse you for living for the Lord and doing that which is right, know that God is listening and God is in control. With Him the curse is mute and has no power upon you.
1Corinthians 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
When offences come, and they will, remember what God’s says.
Psalm 119:165 Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.
The word of God reveals the true nature of man. When the foolish curse you and you know their nature, it should be of no offence because God said they would act that way. Lost people will always act like lost people, one hundred percent of the time. Expect it.
What should we do when they curse?
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. 6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. 7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. 8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
Proverbs 26:2 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.
The choice is still yours,
