Morning Devotion: Read Proverbs

Proverbs 26:4  Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him. 5  Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

This proverb seems to be a contradiction when it fact it is all one response to the fool who denies God.

It simply means don’t get on the same degraded level of a fool in argument. Don’t lower yourself to their standard lest you be like he is. Answer him according to his folly is to answer him in revealing his folly by giving truth and solid answers which are only found in the word of God. Show him where his reasoning is wrong with God. Take his folly, his argument and his reasoning and show him the contradiction with God’s word lest he be wise in his on conceit.

I once had a man tell me he was saved because he allowed the Holy Spirit into his life. Where is that in the bible?

When I revealed to him the Holy Spirit only saves a person when they repent of self and sin and place their faith and trust in Christ Jesus he became upset and would no longer converse about the topic.

Ephesians 1:13  In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14  Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

When a person hears the word of God and places their faith and trust in Christ Jesus, then and only then are they sealed with the Spirit of God.

People can get into an emotional and spiritual euphoric high and accept the “spirit” thinking they are saved. When in fact they only had an emotional experience which never last and never saves. They eventually return to their own ways while thinking they are born again.

Praise and worship teams are very adept at bringing people into this kind of state. Add to that a message of love and acceptance by God without repentance and you have the perfect recipe for a false salvation.

God does love each and every person on this planet, however He is Holy and Righteous and will never allow sin into heaven. That is why He sent Jesus Christ into this world to die on Calvary’s cross and pay for the sin debt of the whole world.

1Timothy 1:15  This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

Jesus himself said: Mark 1:15  “And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”

Acts 20:21  Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

No repentance, no salvation.

Proverbs 26:4  Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him. 5  Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

Remember, when talking to a fool don’t get on their level in foolish conversation, give them an answer that reveals their folly lest they think themselves wise in their own conceit.

Ephesians 4:14  That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; 15  But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

Matthew 5:37  But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

The choice is still yours,

Pastor Cook
